Almost 4 weeks no retwist/perm rod set on baby locs

Hello everyone!

I have done really well with not doing my loc retwist before 4 weeks since my last retwist. As a matter of fact, this weekend is my scheduled retwist time so now I know that I can go 4 weeks between retwists and that I can shampoo without having to retwist. On a whim, I scheduled an appointment for Saturday at a natural hair salon to have my locs retwisted. I wanted to have someone just go through to make sure my parts are good and maybe rework a few of them. However, I am staring to feel uneasy about going because the person that I spoke with asked if I interlocked or palm rolled. When I told her that I palm rolled, she then said, “well we will see what’s best for you when you get here”. I was not happy with that statement due to two reasons:

1. My personal preference is to palm roll. I have seen videos on YouTube where some people prefer to interlock and over time the loc looks like a braid to me. I do not like that look, if I wanted braids, I would braid my hair.

2. Cost: Palm roll is $60 and Interlocking is $80 and the $60 is within my budget that I plan to stay in. I have a feeling that I will be canceling this appointment. I will post this weekend with an update.

Last night I decided to use perm rods to curl my baby locs because I am not sure if I can rock pipe cleaner curls just yet. I did the following:

I. Sprayed my hair with water

II. Sealed with a very light amount of Creme of Nature Argan Oil,

III. Used 1 pump of the Proclaim Olive Oil foaming wrap lotion and spread it throughout my hair

IV. Rolled my locs the small pink and gray perm rods and slept with a satin bonnet over night.

Here are the pics of the results:

Not bad huh? I think it looks nice and hope the curls will last at least for the next two days. As the days pass I am enjoying this new phase of my natural journey more and more. 🙂

Roll, tuck, pin style on short locs

This is not a fancy loc style, it is just a roll, tuck, pin hairstyle that I had to fight to come up with last night. I used the small (7/16″ diameter) perm rods on the locs that I left out and tucked the rest. Slept with the rods in all night and took them out this morning before my workout so that the curls would fall a little bit. It does not look like they fell much though. At any rate, the style may not the best but it is more presentable for work than how my hair looked yesterday.

First loc shampoo with no retwist

As stated in my previous post, I shampooed my hair this weekend (today actually) and did not do a retwist. I wanted to share the photos I took this evening after my hair fully dried so that you all can see how my hair looks.

My hair does not look as bad as I thought it would. You can see all of my new growth and how frizzy my hair is. I plan to do my first loc style tonight to wear to work this week. It will not be a fancy style,  it will only be a simple roll and tuck style that I saw on youtube that I will wear for this week.

Two month loc update

On 9/11 I hit my 2nd month on my loc journey. I would have to say that I am starting to settle in with the process. I am not 100% happy with how my hair looks at this moment, but I am aware that my hair is going through a transition from loose to loc’d.  I CAN say that I am no longer tempted or having thoughts of taking out my loc’s when I see loose naturals. That is a milestone in my opinion.  I did my last re-twist on August 30th and I will be shampooing my hair tomorrow.  I will NOT re-twist my hair because I really have to give my hair the chance to do what it needs to do in the loc’ing process.

My goal moving forward is to retwist every four weeks and shampoo every two to make sure that my scalp is cleansed. I think I can meet my goal, I just need to come up with ideas on how to camouflage the new growth and frizziness with doing braid outs and I think I will try a rod set since I am not at the stage where I can do pipe cleaner curls.

Here is my progress so far, I took these photos last weekend:

As you can see, my hair is frizzing up and the 2 strand twist pattern is still evident. I  have locs that are budding and some that do not have actual buds but are actually starting to loc already. When I stick my finger through my new growth and try to slide my finger down on many of my locs, there is a stopping point. I am so excited and happy that I made this decision!!

Well everyone that is all for now. I will pop in again for another loc update soon! Thanks for reading!
